There's enough space for all of us
I can’t begin to tell you how many friendships have been destroyed by comparison and competition, especially among women. Jealousy and insecurity are root causes of this terrible relationship killer.
Instead of being happy for our friends while also being content with our own lives, we oftentimes measure ourselves against our friends like we’re in competition with each other. But here's the thing: WE'RE NOT.
What women often fail to understand is that there’s room for all of us. It doesn’t matter whose kid walks first or whose husband makes more money or who has more followers on Instagram. It doesn’t matter who wears cuter clothes or cooks healthier meals. We’re not in a race against each other.
Our lives are all different. No matter what we do, we’ll never be exactly like someone else. So why would we try to fit into a box that wasn’t made for us? Only Cinderella could fit into her glass slippers, and only you can fit into yours.
Stop obsessing over her success and wondering why you’re behind. Stop worrying about not measuring up to standards you’ve created in your own mind. Stop wishing you were more like her or your life was more like hers.
Chances are, there are struggles you don’t see. Nobody’s life is perfect, even if it looks that way from the outside. We all have good days and moments, and we all have low points. Nobody is better or worse than anyone else, because it’s not a competition.
Live your life and do what matters to you. Focus on your work and family and health. Celebrate your friends when they succeed, but realize that it doesn't take anything away from you. Give them their moment, and let them celebrate you when your moment comes.
Instead of competing with each other, let’s celebrate, encourage and pray for each other. There’s enough room for all of us.
